Social and technical megatrends such as the sharing economy, individualization, multimodality, digital booking platforms, electromobility and automated driving are already changing not only our needs and mobility behavior, but also the mobility market. Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich (VBZ) wants to play an active role in shaping these developments and thus offer future-proof solutions. The city of Zurich’s public mobility offer is being expanded in a resource-saving way and also made tangible for users in trial operations: with the development of ZüriMobil, a mobility platform for Zurich, and the pilot trial Pikmi, Zurich’s first “on-demand” public transport offer, VBZ is already shaping the future of public mobility today. Experience the new possibilities and get a behind-the-scenes look during a demonstration in the halls of the VBZ Main Garage in Zurich Altstetten.

The program includes:

  • ZüriMobil app – The mobility platform enables customers to travel seamlessly across all modes of transport in the Zurich urban region. All mobility offers are displayed in the app and can be compared with each other.
  • ZüriMobil Station – The physical counterpart to the ZüriMobil app, ensures that switching from one mode of transport to another is even easier. All mobility partners are only a few meters away from each other.
  • ARNa (Augmented Reality Navigation) – In addition to new offers, access to public transport also plays an essential role. For example, helping passengers find the right stop or stop point is important to VBZ. ARNa is a prototype that VBZ is using to test whether augmented reality (AR) technology can be used for this purpose.
  • Pikmi – The bus on Appruf. The minibuses are in operation every evening from 8 pm to 1 am. A ride is ordered via app. Until spring 2022, VBZ is testing public transport on demand in the Zurich neighborhoods of Altstetten and Albisrieden.
